I think one of the strongest benefits of the gray-on-gray trend is that gray is a uniquely versatile color. Gray will literally go with almost any other color, and for my purposes it can even go with itself as long as the shades contrast enough. Grays can also be done in flat colors, metallic colors such as silver, and is even offered in a range of heather tones.

Aside from gray being easy to wear, unfortunately the all-gray or gray-on-gray trend is rather bland compared to black-on-black or blue-on-blue. Because of the blandness of gray I believe that its biggest drawback is that an outfit of all gray will more than likely not appear appropriate without a pop of color. This negative can be seen as a positive characteristic though, since I mentioned earlier that gray goes with just about every color. That means that one would not be limited in their choice of color of pop, which makes it easy to accessorize with an all-gray or gray-on-gray outfit.
